history
The first forerunner of the Kreissparkasse Birkenfeld was the "Ersparungs-Casse für das Fürstenthum Birkenfeld", which was founded in 1842. This later merged with the Birkenfeld branch of " Oldenburgische Landesbank AG " founded in 1914 . It is to this institute that the Kreissparkasse owes its unusual addition to its name, Birkenfelder Landesbank (the term Landesbank usually refers to the regional top institutes of the savings banks).
