In 1848 he was elected to the Prussian National Assembly.
A street in Bilk between Burghofstrasse and Suitbertusstrasse is named after him. Major parts of AJ Binterim's estate are in the Hermann Smeets archive of the Bilker Heimatfreunde in Düsseldorf.
Act
Anton Joseph Binterim worked from 1805 until his death in 1855 as pastor of St. Martin in Bilk, Düsseldorf. He became known for his church-historical research work on the Archdiocese of Cologne and the Franciscan Order and is considered the "founding father" of the Historical Association for the Lower Rhine, which was founded in 1854 . With Heinrich Joseph Floß, Binterim supplemented the Concilia Germaniae by Hermann Joseph Hartzheim .
Binterim was a staunch opponent of the doctrine of the Hermesians . For his polemical remarks about church time issues such as interfaith marriage ( Cologne turmoil ), he came into conflict with the Prussian state authority and was in 1839 because of his public commitment against the detention of the Cologne archbishop Clemens August sentenced to a fortress punishment and in the Wesel citadel detained .
