Otto Kurth

Otto Kurth (born May 31, 1912 in Bremen , † December 13, 1996 in Munich ) was a German actor and director .

Life

Otto Kurth received acting lessons from Erich Ziegel and Mirjam Horwitz and began his stage career at the Hamburger Kammerspiele under the artistic director and founder Erich Ziegel. This was followed by positions as an actor and dramaturge at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg (1933) and the Schauspielhaus in Bremen. From 1938 first directorial work, among others with Jürgen Fehling , with Gustaf Gründgens at the Prussian State Theater in Berlin . After the end of the war, Otto Kurth was head of the radio play department of the Northwest German Broadcasting Corporation (NWDR) from 1945 and became chief radio director in 1947. In this capacity he was responsible as a director for a large number of radio plays from the late 1940s, also on behalf of other broadcasters.

These included an adaptation of the comedy An Angel Called Schmitt with Heinz Rühmann in 1953, the radio play Der kleine Lord in 1956 and in 1958 a radio play version of the novel Doctor Schiwago by Boris Pasternak .

Kurth also worked as a theater director. In 1949 he directed the comedy The Dreaming Girl by Elmer Rice with Hannelore Schroth at the Hamburger Kammerspiele under the artistic director Ida Ehre . Guest productions took him to the Kassel State Theater . Christine Brückner was the assistant director in Kassel .

From the 1960s Otto Kurth could be seen as an actor in numerous television productions such as Der Kommissar , Der Alte , Tadellöser & Wolff and Die Geschwister Oppermann . He also directed several productions.

In 1990 Otto Kurth published the volume Stories and Letters .

He was married to his colleague Margot Kurth. His final resting place is in Munich's north cemetery in the urn wall, row 9, grave no.8.
