biography

Siegfried Wagner apparently grew up in Hamburg, where he attended a humanistic grammar school and also did his Abitur . He then completed a degree in theater history and took acting lessons with Gustav Kirchner at the Thalia Theater , where he began an internship in 1922 . Later he got piece contracts with various German theaters in Berlin , the East Prussian State Theater in Königsberg and at the Stadttheater Neisse . He was engaged as a director at the State Theater Southeast Prussia in Allenstein and at the New City Theater Greifswald . He was a soldier from 1939 to 1945. From the end of the war until 1949 he worked as a copywriter and lecturer for practically all Hamburg cabarets . At that time, these included the kaleidoscope , the bonbonniere and the bronze cellar . He also gave guest performances on various stages, including the New Theater in Hamburg . Here you could see him, for example, as father Jonathan in the play In the Seventh Heaven by Albin Stuebs .

Wagner also wrote plays himself, such as shadows, a mystical play , which premiered in Berlin in 1931, or Godiva with the veil , a play in 7 scenes.

Occasionally he also worked as a director for television. From 1960 to 1961 he directed the television series Above and Below , in which Lilly Towska , Otto Braml , Ursula Dartsch and Hans Irle were among the leading actors.

He has been working as a speaker and author for radio since 1928 . From 1934 to 1939 he was also under contract as a director with the Reichsender Königsberg . From 1946 to 1949 he worked as a freelancer for various broadcasters; from 1949 to 1951 in the same position at NWDR Hamburg . Since 1951 he was permanently employed by the broadcaster and remained there with the legal successor, the Norddeutscher Rundfunk, apparently until his retirement.

His extensive work as a radio play director includes the series The Hunt for the Perpetrator , of which he himself staged 110 of the 129 episodes between 1957 and 1964. Other series were Adventure of the Future and Espionage , both of which had 10 episodes each. In 1959 he performed on Season 3 of Gestatten, my name is Cox ; Murder on luggage ticket 3311 directed. After the first two seasons were under the direction of Hans Gertberg and in which Carl-Heinz Schroth spoke the title role, it was Erwin Linder who now took over his part. Other speakers included Manfred Steffen , Georg Eilert , Rolf Nagel and Verena Wiet . As a radio play speaker he could be heard in 1959 in All inclusive (director: Wolfgang Schwade ) and in 1972 in The Story of Dwarf Casimir and Princess Sismonda (director: Fritz Schröder-Jahn ).

SO Wagner died on May 17, 1975 in Hamburg. He was buried in the Ohlsdorf cemetery. The grave location read: M20-306. The grave has since been cleared, as neither a relative has applied for an extension, nor has the cultural authority placed the grave under protection.
