Jocco Abendroth , actually Jürgen Peter Abendroth , (born August 28, 1953 in Bad Camberg ; † June 15, 2007 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German singer , guitarist and composer .

life and work

His music is often reminiscent of the American musicians such as John Mellencamp , Bruce Springsteen , Southside Johnny . Probably his greatest commercial success was “Hearts must burn” from 1987. According to Robert Lyng (Soundcheck 2/87), Abendroth's music was characterized by “piano, power accordion and a“ laidback backbeat ”that was incomparable in Germany (the 2nd and 4 emphasized). But played so casually that the character is absolutely American ”.

Abendroth's voice had an unmistakable North German sound. Together with the musical mix and the sometimes dreamy wanderlust texts, there were parallels to the later records by Achim Reichel .

Jocco Abendroth succumbed to cancer in June 2007 in the Bürgerhospital in Frankfurt am Main.
