The Hives are a Swedish alternative rock - band . The band's hallmark are tailor-made suits in black or white.
history
The band , which was founded in the Swedish city of Fagersta in 1993 , consists of the singer "Howlin '" Pelle Almqvist, the guitarists Niklas Almqvist ("Nicholaus Arson", brother of the singer) and Mikael Karlsson Åström ("Vigilante Carlstroem"), the Bassist Mattias Bernvall ("Dr. Matt Destruction") and drummer Christian Grahn ("Chris Dangerous"). As the sixth band member, the musicians name the songwriter and producer "Randy Fitzsimmons", who, however, is generally considered to be a fictional character.
In 1996, the band released on Japhi, the side label of Burning Heart Records , their first EP Oh Lord! When? How? , which was followed in 1997 by the album Barely Legal . In the beginning they toured mainly in Sweden through clubs a. a. with The Pricks and as support for the band The Hellacopters .
After a US tour in 2000 and 2001, respectively, they achieved their breakthrough in America and Europe with the albums Veni, Vidi, Vicious and Your New Favorite Band ( compilation ) . The singles Main Offender and Hate To Say I Told You So featured on it became hits.
The Hives are one of the most popular of stylistically similar bands that have been referred to as "The-Bands" (such as The White Stripes , The Libertines , The Strokes ) through the common use of the English article The in their name and since the beginning of the new millennium are very present in rock music ( see also: Garage Rock ).
On July 20, 2004, the third album of the Hives was released under the title Tyrannosaurus Hives . The first single was called Walk Idiot Walk , the second Two-Timing Touch And Broken Bones, and the third A Little More For a Little You (only released in the US and UK ).
The Spin magazine named the Hives in August 2006 for "best Liveband in the world" and sat at the same time the singer Pelle Almqvist on the list of "50 Greatest frontmen Of All Time".
The Hives were three times as guests of the Toten Hosen on the “Laune der Natour” tour (Stuttgart, Bosen and Essen).
