The Falkenstein dam is a dam in Saxony , which was built in 1971-1975 near Falkenstein in Vogtland for the supply of industrial water by Falgard , among others . The official commissioning was in 1977.

Since there is no longer any industry that needs process water, the main uses of the dam are currently only recreational activities, especially bathing, and flood protection . A small hydropower plant for personal use is also in operation. The dam of the Falkenstein dam is a stone embankment dam with an inner seal made of concrete . The dammed body of water is the White Göltzsch , which shortly thereafter merges with the Red Göltzsch to form the Göltzsch and later flows into the White Elster .

Freetime activities

There is a swimming pool at the dam. The reservoir is a certified EU bathing water . There is a small pre-pool at the root of the reservoir that serves as a children's swimming pond.

There are almost no fish in the dam because the water is too acidic. Therefore, fishing does not make sense here. The top of the dam is accessible and there is a circular path around the dam.
