Kate Marie Nash (born July 6, 1987 in North Harrow , London ) is a British singer-songwriter .

life and career

Kate Nash was born and raised in London's north-western borough of North Harrow. Her brother is a member of the indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club . She learned to play the piano in her youth , graduated from school with music, among other things, and then studied at the BRIT School . Her actual professional goal was actress ; however, she failed the entrance exam to a drama school in Bristol . After a break due to a broken leg, she soon found the leisure to write songs and decided to try it out as a musician.

After a few appearances and the publication of a few tracks on MySpace , Nash joined a small London label in 2006. In February 2007, the double single Caroline's a Victim / Birds was released , and at the same time she went on a nationwide tour. The single, which was only released in vinyl and in limited numbers, did not make it into the domestic charts , although the accompanying video was on MTV2 . Then the Polydor sub-label Fiction Records took her under contract. A second tour followed, and after several appearances at major festivals like the one in Glastonbury , their second single, Foundations , was released in June . It immediately reached second place in the chart, which it held for several weeks. Due to the great success of the single, the record company decided to release the debut album Made of Bricks earlier than planned, especially since it could be found on the Internet as an illegal copy before it was released. Still, the album made it to the top of the UK album charts in August 2007 . In 2010 Made of Bricks was awarded gold in Germany . On April 23, 2010, the second album My Best Friend Is You was released . The single Do-Wah-Doo was able to place in the German top 40 . In November 2012 she released the EP Death Proof . Her third studio album Girl Talk was recorded in Los Angeles and was released on March 1, 2013. In August 2016, the single Good Summer was released .

Nash suffered from palpitations for several years , which she had surgically treated at the age of 17. This experience served as the inspiration for her song Death Proof.

From 2007 to 2012, Nash was in a relationship with Ryan Jarman, lead singer and guitarist of indie rock band The Cribs .

She has appeared in the GLOW series since 2017 .

Nash's fourth studio album, Yesterday Was Forever , was released at the end of March 2018 , which she financed through a crowdfunding campaign.
