Stella Grigorian ( Georgian სტელლა გრიგორიან ; * 1968 in Tbilisi , Georgia ) is an Armenian-Georgian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

After graduating from high school, Stella Grigorian studied solo singing at the higher music school in her hometown. This was followed by studies in French and Spanish (master's degree). She completed her vocal training with a major in song and opera at the Art Academy Tbilisi and the Music Conservatory of the City of Vienna.

She received her first professional engagement in 1998 at the Vienna State Opera . She was a permanent member of the ensemble until June 2006 and, alongside Agnes Baltsa, became a crowd favorite because of her stage performance. In Vienna she sang a. a. Rosina in The Barber of Seville , Zerlina in Don Giovanni , Despina in Così fan tutte , Bersi in Andrea Chénier , Meg in Falstaff , Pierotto in Linda di Chamounix and Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette ( Romeo and Juliet ( Fabric) ). She also sang Carmen in the opera of the same name by Georges Bizet . She sang this role successfully at the Vienna Volksoper and in Hamburg in the 2005/2006 season. In summer 2004 the mezzo-soprano made her debut as Lucienne in the opera Die tote Stadt by Erich Wolfgang Korngold at the Salzburg Festival .

Stella Grigorian sang as a guest at the opera stages in Ulm , Tokyo , Graz , Zurich , Klagenfurt , Hamburg , Frankfurt am Main , Basel and appeared as a lieder and concert singer at opera galas. At the 3rd Herbert von Karajan Memorial Concert on June 6, 2003 in the Congress Center in Ulm, she sang Italian opera arias and duets under the musical direction of the conductor James Allen Gähres , together with Leo Nucci and Vera Schoenenberg . With the 2006/2007 season she is a member of the ensemble at the Frankfurt Opera .
