The Backyard Babies are a rock band from Nässjö , Sweden .
Band history
The band members went to the same school, and after their founding in 1987, a demo and some live performances, the actual singer Tobias Tobbe Fischer was fired in 1989 because of musical differences and replaced by Nicke Borg . Two more demos and a national tour followed before the first official release came in 1991 - the EP Something to Swallow . In 1993 they were signed by the Swedish music label Megarock . A year later, the first album Diesel & Power was released. Since Dregen was also the guitarist of the Hellacopters , which he co-founded in 1994, things got very quiet around the Backyard Babies until 1997. In 1998 the second album Total 13 was released . A year later Dregen left the Hellacopters to take care of the backyard babies exclusively from now on. In 2001 the album Making Enemies is Good was released , which finally brought the band international fame and in 2003 the album Stockholm Syndrome . In 2006 the next album People like People like People like us came out. With their fifth album so far, they moved a little further away from the style of the successful album Total 13, but justified their further development into quieter songs less with their age than with increased self-confidence. The album was produced by Hellacopters boss Nicke Andersson, who became the fifth member of the band during the production phase and also co-wrote You Cannot Win . On August 13, 2008, the album Backyard Babies was released .
The band names the Ramones , Warrior Soul , KISS and Hanoi Rocks as significant influences . For other role models such as AC / DC , Monster Magnet , Social Distortion , Velvet Revolver and Mötley Crüe , they were also allowed to serve as support on tours. Furthermore, the Canadian rocker Danko Jones and his band of the same name supported the babies on the 2001 Making Enemies tour. In 2009 the Backyard Babies were again the opening act for Danko Jones.
At the end of 2009 the band celebrated their 20th anniversary (with this line-up) with the release of a CD / DVD set called Them XX . It includes a best-of CD, two CDs with B-sides and songs that cannot be found on regular releases, as well as an expanded re-edition of the DVD Jetlag - The Movie . The set is framed by a photo book showing photos from the band's history. Most of these pictures were shot by amateur photographer and drummer Peder Carlsson. The release was accompanied by a relatively short tour for the band, which was followed by a long break from the band.
Nicke Borg uses this creative break for his solo project Homeland . Dregen played from June 2011 to March 2014 in the solo band of ex- Hanoi Rocks singer Michael Monroe .
Dregen released his first solo album on September 25, 2013.
In the summer of 2014 the band started working on a new album. On June 5th, 2015 they played their first appearance since 2010 at the Sweden Rock Festival . The new album Four by Four was released a few months later, on August 28th, 2015.
