Codemasters is a UK based video game developer and distributor . The head office is in Southam, England. Codemasters is one of the UK's oldest game studios and was named Best Independent Video Game Developer by Develop magazine in 2005.
history
The company was founded in October 1986 by brothers Richard and David Darling, who had previously worked for Mastertronic , and with the help of their father Jim. In addition, branches were maintained in the USA , France , Spain and the Benelux countries . The brothers were appointed Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE for short) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2008 . German sales have been taking place in Germany, Austria and Switzerland via Koch Media since March 2010, and the German branch was dissolved as part of the transfer of sales to Koch Media. Codemasters today publishes game titles for Windows, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia.
Former Acclaim Entertainment CEO Rod Cousens led the company between 2005 and 2015 . After he moved to Jagex in April 2015 , the previous COO Frank Sagnier took over the position of CEO.
In April 2016, Codemasters took over a large part of the employees at the Evolution studio , which was closed by Sony.
Codemasters took over Slightly Mad Studios, the developer of the Project Cars parts. In November 2019, the acquisition was completed for approximately $ 30 million. The takeover increased the workforce at Codemasters to around 700.
