Rise of the Argonauts

Rise of the Argonauts ( English for "Rise of the Argonauts") is an action role-playing game developed by Liquid Entertainment and distributed by Codemasters . The game revolves around the Greek mythological story of Jason and his Argonauts , who go on a journey to find the Golden Fleece and thus free Jason's fiancée from the realm of the dead.

history

In Rise of the Argonauts you play Jason , the Iolk (Greek) king. At the beginning of the story, his wife is deceitfully killed by an assassin , whereupon Jason avenges her by killing the assassin. Together with Hercules and his soldiers, Jason can fend off the attack by the Ionian troops, but that is little consolation for the death of his beloved Alcmene, whose death he cannot accept. He learns that there is a magical artifact that should make it possible to bring the dead back to life - the Golden Fleece . Jason then makes his way to the Oracle of Delphi together with Hercules and the warship Argo . During his absence, he transfers rule of the kingdom to his uncle Pelias . The oracle orders him to bring three mortals with divine blood in their veins to Delphi. In his search for the Golden Fleece, Jason repeatedly encounters other companions, such as Pan , a satyr who serves as an advisor to the Oracle of Delphi, or Atalanta , an Amazon archer. They support Jason with numerous skills in order to thwart the dark machinations of the Titan Hecate and her Blacktongue cult. In the end, the story will come to an end, a "happy ending", which is not tragic given the numerous freedom of choice within the game. So every character in the game who bears a name also has a story to tell, which can be influenced by Jason's decision. Consequences are also an important factor because they have a major impact on the course of history.

Characters

In Rise of the Argonauts there are various companions, the Argonauts, of which you can choose two before you start your journey, i.e. before you leave the ship, to accompany Jason on an island. These can be changed when you return to the ship, which can be useful to adapt to different situations. The behavior of the NPCs changes depending on the choice of the group. Each combination has its advantages and disadvantages, as the strengths and weaknesses of the three chosen characters can be combined.

Through heroic deeds and decisions that Jason makes, the player receives skill points. Jason invests these points in the skills of the following four gods:

Game world

In the world of Rise of the Argonauts you can travel to six islands, each with a playing time of three to four hours. Each of the islands is unique and tells its own story, but also takes the main storyline a little further. You can find new friends and treasures on the islands, but great dangers also lurk on them. The six islands are:

  • Delphi : In Delphi you meet the oracle that explains Jason how to find and use the golden fleece. The island is dedicated to Apollo.
  • Iolkos : Iolkos is the island Jason grew up on and of which he is now king.
  • Kythra : Kythra is dedicated to Athena, but all living beings were petrified by a curse. There you also meet Medusa.
  • Mycenae : This is the island of Ares, on which Lykomedes , Alcmenes father, rules. The big arena where you meet Achilles is also located here.
  • Saria : Saria is a jungle island home to the centaurs who worship Hermes.
  • Tartaros : This is the island where Hecate rules and, with the help of her brothers, Epimetheus and Prometheus , tries to raise an army.
