Hanoi Rocks was a Finnish rock band .

Musically, the group was influenced by artists such as the New York Dolls , The Stooges and The Rolling Stones . Her style combined elements of blues , surf rock , punk rock , heavy metal and glam rock . The lyrics are often about suffering and love as well as suburban alienation.

history

Hanoi Rocks was founded in Helsinki in 1980 by school friends Andy McCoy (born Antti Hulkko) and Nasty Suicide (Jan Stenfors). She was later joined by singer Michael Monroe (Matti Fagerholm), bassist Sam Yaffa (Sami Takamäki) and drummer Gyp Casino (Jesper Sporre). In 1981 she moved to Stockholm and in 1982 to London to benefit from the livelier music scene there. Casino was kicked out of the band later that year to be replaced by the Isle of Wight-raised Englishman Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley.

While the band never enjoyed any significant commercial success, a sizable cult had grown around them. Even critics of side they reaped for their "sleazy" (dt. Sloppy, loose ), but melodic music style not a little recognition. You have been cited as an influence of successful bands such as Guns n 'Roses .

In 1983 the band signed to CBS Records and it seemed like this was the beginning of commercial success. But the disaster struck when Razzle was killed in a car accident in Hollywood, California in December 1984. He was in a car that was being driven by Vince Neil , the lead singer of the band Mötley Crüe . Although Razzle was replaced by Terry Chimes , the drummer on The Clash's first album , there was no further recording. First Yaffa and after him Monroe left the band, which then broke up in 1985. The individual members spent the next 15 years on various short-lived projects and, despite working with numerous artists such as Iggy Pop , Stiv Bators and Guns N 'Roses, never again achieved anything comparable to their early successes.

In 2002, Monroe and McCoy reunited the band, released a new album and started touring again. In October 2008 the band announced that they would split up at the end of 2008. This breakup finally took place in April 2009 after the band gave eight sold-out farewell concerts at rock club Tavastia within six days.
