Terry Chimes (born July 5, 1956 in London , aka Tory Crimes ) is a British drummer and co-founder of the British punk band The Clash .

Life

Chimes, who is in London's Mile End was born, attended from 1967 to 1974, the Raine's Foundation School in inner-city London neighborhood Bethnal Green , who still says today, they "cling to the traditional values of hard work, good leadership, loyalty and high Requirements for clothing and appearance " ( which still adheres to traditional values of hard work, good conduct, loyalty and high standards of dress and appearance" ). In 1970, at the age of 15, he learned to play drums. He was a member of the first English punk bands, London SS of Mick Jones . Together with Jones, bassist Paul Simonon , singer Joe Strummer (previously The 101ers ) and Keith Levene , he founded the punk band The Clash in June 1976 . He sat first until May 1977 and then - when the band had separated from his successor Topper Headon because of drug problems - again from May 1982 to May 1983 during a US and England tour ( Combat Rock Tour ) for The Clash on the drum set . Terry Chime's percussion skills can be heard on the debut studio album The Clash (1977) as well as on some tracks on the live compilation album From Here to Eternity: Live (1999). On the studio album, however, he is listed as Tory Crimes , a nickname given to him by the clash roadie Stephen "Roadent" Connolly afterwards.

After his first departure from The Clash , he played for Cowboys International (1979), Generation X (with his London SS colleague Tony James and Billy Idol , 1979-1980) and The Lords of the New Church (1980) and after his second Departure for the Finnish crossover band Hanoi Rocks (1985), which was urgently looking for a replacement after the surprising death of its drummer Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley on December 9, 1984 in Redondo Beach, California (at the wheel was Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil ) . With Hanoi rockers Antti Hulkko ( alias Andy McCoy, guitar, keyboard ) and Jan Stenfors ( alias Nasty Suicide, guitar), bassist Timo Caltio (previously roadie of Hanoi Rocks ) and lead singer Anita Mahadervan ( alias Anita Chellamah, previously with Women's vocal quintet Toto Coelo active) he formed the Cherry Bombz (1985–1988) after the breakup of the Finnish group . Chimes was also enlisted for the lineup of the "Eternal Idol Tour" by Black Sabbath in the United Kingdom (1987-1988). From 1992 to 1993 his musical career came to a rather untypical end with a performance for Les McKeown and the 70's Bay City Rollers , a revival band of the famous teenie bopper boy group initiated by ex Bay City Roller singer Leslie Richard McKeown .

Terry Chimes, however, had already turned to the profession of alternative practitioner since the late 1980s , attended training seminars for five years, practiced acupuncture in London , attended clinics in the People's Republic of China and completed his knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine in Nanjing . In 1994 Terry Chimes opened a thriving chiropractic clinic in South Woodford , northeast London , and has been running it ever since. His specialty is the treatment of back problems .

On August 2, 2001, the local newspaper Wanstead and Woodford Guardian quoted Chimes as saying : “It is much more exciting seeing people get better than playing on stage.” ( Eng.It is much more exciting to see how people relax, than to play on stage. "). Nonetheless, he and the other surviving Clash veterans received a late and high honor: on March 10, 2003, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a festive ceremony in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York .

Since 2007 Chimes has been chairman of the board of trustees of the YMCA organization Forest YMCA of East London .

Quotes

  • "The straw that broke the camel's back may have been an argument over a Maserati . We used to check each other saying what do you want out of this and Terry said 'I want a Maserati'. Imagine our reaction ... He was very honest, he just didn't understand we were trying to see if something new could be forged. The next day he never showed up. " ( Eng . : " The drop that broke the barrel must have been an argument about a Maserati. We always tested each other by asking about our goals, and Terry said ' I want a Maserati.
