biography

He was a founding member of the British punk band The Clash (April to September 1976) and a founding member of the British post-punk band Public Image Ltd. (May 1978 to June 1983). Levene wrote the film soundtrack for Hollywood Vice Squad (USA 1986) and released some solo records under his name (1987-89). He has worked as a guest on various projects for the British On-U Sound label boss Adrian Sherwood (1981–92). The former Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock founded the band The Mavericks with him in 1992 (renamed The Philistines in 1994 ), which he left in 1993.

From 1994 to 2000 he withdrew completely from the music scene due to a serious illness of his wife, the ex-journalist Shelly da Cunha.

Since 2000 Levene has been trying to gain a foothold with his new music project Murder Global and in 2002 released the solo EP Killer in the Crowd , which received little response. He is also currently working on smaller projects with British and Norwegian dub and hip-hop artists and runs his own YouTube channel with video graphics and sound experiments.
