Glen Matlock (born August 27, 1956 in Greenford ) is a British bassist and founding member of the Sex Pistols .

Career

Matlock wrote the music for the Sex Pistols' three hit singles, Anarchy in the UK , God Save the Queen and Pretty Vacant . At the end of February 1977 he left the group after constant quarrels with the singer John Lydon and was compensated with a one-off payment with which he ceded all rights to the songs he had composed. The group's manager, Malcolm McLaren , falsely claimed in a press release that it was an expulsion and that it was because Matlock liked the Beatles .

Glen Matlock formed a new band with the later Ultravox singer Midge Ure , the Rich Kids (1977-79). In the 1980s he worked quite unsuccessfully on numerous smaller band projects. In 1990, Matlock published his autobiography, I Was A Teenage Sex Pistol . In 1992 he founded a new band, The Mavericks, which he had to rename The Philistines in 1995 because the well-known and popular country rock band The Mavericks has been around since 1989 . He has regularly released albums with The Philistines to this day.

After his reconciliation with John Lydon, Matlock went on a six-month world tour with the Sex Pistols in 1996. Since 2002 he has appeared again several times with the Sex Pistols.
