Seventh Star is the twelfth studio album by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath . It was released in January 1986.
Emergence
The album was not originally intended to be a Black Sabbath album. The band broke up after the low point Born Again and the subsequent disastrous tour. Instead, it should be guitarist Tony Iommi's first solo album . At the instigation of the label and manager Don Arden , it was released as Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi . Ex- Deep Purple singer Glenn Hughes sang on the album, but he didn't play bass like he did on Deep Purple. Against this background, songwriting turned out to be more blues- oriented than usual with Black Sabbath. Hughes' singing was also completely different from Ozzy Osbournes , which was also shown in the following tour activities, in which Hughes was replaced by Ray Gillen after five appearances .
In 2010 the album was re-released as a double CD. The second CD contained a 1986 concert with Ray Gillen.
