Dehumanizer is the 16th studio album by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath . It was released in June 1992.

History of origin

After Ronnie James Dio left Black Sabbath to start his solo project Dio , Deep Purple singers Ian Gillan and Glenn Hughes took up the position of singer, but were later replaced by Tony Martin , with whom three albums were released . However, since these albums did not bring financial success, Tony Martin was released by the band head Tony Iommi . He now wanted Ronnie James Dio to take up the position of singer again in order to build on the old successful times ( Heaven and Hell , Mob Rules ). In fact, Ronnie James Dio interrupted his solo project to record the 1992 Dehumanizer album with Black Sabbath.

The line-up did not last. On the follow-up Cross Purposes Tony Martin went back as a singer and Vinny Appice was replaced by Bobby Rondinelli.

Music style and achievements

Stylistically, it differs very much from the previous and later Black Sabbath albums. The sound of this album is rougher and heavier. At the time of publication, this put off many fans. As a result, Dehumanizer was hardly successful. Nevertheless, the album reached number 28 on the British album charts. The single TV Crimes was also number 33 in the British charts a few days after its release. In the USA, the album reached number 44 on the Billboard charts. Despite the limited success, many songs on this album were up to Dios death in Heaven-and-Hell - Playlist . Dio himself also played songs from the album at his concerts until his death.
