Leslie Richard "Les" McKeown (born November 12, 1955 in Edinburgh , Scotland , † April 20, 2021 in London , England ) was a British singer . He was the singer of the Bay City Rollers from 1973 to 1978 , but also released two solo albums .

biography

1973 McKeown left the band Threshold and became the lead singer of the Bay City Rollers. After breaking up with the band, he worked on a solo career and released the album All Washed Up in 1979 . In Japan he was successful, while in Europe he was unable to build on the success of his former band.

At the end of the 1980s he returned to the charts in Germany with producer Dieter Bohlen . His first single , She's a Lady , also on the debut album of Blue System was to be found, reached number 38 of the German single charts . This was followed by Love Is Just a Breath Away , Love Hurts and Love Heals and It's a game from the soundtrack to ZDF - TV Series rival the racecourse three more coming from Bohlen spring Top 50 hits in Germany.

Half of the 1989 album It's a Game - The First Album , the songs Looking for Love , Natural Lover , I Need Your Love and I'll Be Your Lover , were produced by McKeown himself. The last single, Nobody Makes , also written by Bohlen Me Crazy (Like You Do) , was also released as an album track in a version by Blue System.

In March 1990 McKeown took part with the title Ball and Chain in the British preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest and finished fourth. In 2005 he toured with a Bay City Rollers successor band. Together with the photographer Wolfgang Heilemann , McKeown ran a karaoke shop in Munich from the mid-1990s .

Les McKeown died suddenly at home on April 20, 2021 at the age of 65, according to his family.
