Blue System was a project by Dieter Bohlen , which he founded in 1987 - after Modern Talking was first dissolved . In 1998 he finished the project.

history

Compared to Modern Talking, the project was less successful and was particularly well known in German-speaking countries and Russia. Blue System was a synonym for Dieter Bohlen with changing musicians and dancers for performances. The music is characterized by characteristic, powerful drum accompaniment and bombastic synthesizer effects. Minor tones were also often used, especially in the intros of the pieces. The most successful single was called Under My Skin and made it to number 6 in the German charts . There were also experimental songs like Save Me (1989), Behind the Silence (1990), which was entirely instrumental, as well as duets like Love Is Such A Lonely Sword with Audrey Motaung (1990) and It's All Over with world star Dionne Warwick ( 1991). While the success of the singles slowly waned, the album Backstreet Dreams was able to climb number 5 on the LP charts in 1993. When the sales of the albums gradually waned in the mid-1990s, there was a musical turning point after the album 21st Century .

The following albums such as X-Ten (1994) are strongly based on the Euro-Dance sound that was popular at the time and have stronger basses and beats. The refrains are now mainly taken from female voices. Nevertheless, the new musical course did not succeed in building on the early successes of Blue System. The best-known single of this period is Laila (1995), which made it to number 29 in the singles charts. Other singles stayed well below. The Blue System project ended with the single Love Will Drive Me Crazy and the comeback of Modern Talking in 1998. The Blue System sound affected all artists who were produced by Bohlen during this phase, such as Roy Black , Al Martino or Engelbert and Bonnie Tyler .

Detlef Wiedeke, Michael Scholz and Rolf Köhler , former studio singers with Blue System and Modern Talking, have been making music again since 2003 - Köhler died in September 2007 - and copied the sound and even the Blue System logo under the name Systems in Blue . In terms of chart placements, however, they were unable to build on Blue System.
