Roman Trekel (* 1963 in Pirna near Dresden ) is a German opera and lieder singer (lyrical baritone ).

Life

Roman Trekel was born as the son of the mezzo-soprano Ute Trekel-Burckhardt and the bassist Jürgen Trekel. He first studied oboe . From 1980 to 1986 he studied singing with Kammersänger Heinz Reeh at the University of Music in Berlin . After completing his studies, he moved to the opera studio of the Berlin State Opera until 1988 and from there to the ensemble to which he still belongs today. He also completed master classes with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau . Since 1989 he has been teaching at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin and since 1996 he has been singing regularly at the Bayreuth Festival .

He sings opera roles, songs and symphony concerts. His repertoire includes title and main roles from operas by Mozart , Verdi , Puccini and Tchaikovsky as well as from works by Wagner and Strauss . He has also made a name for himself as a song interpreter, with works by Franz Schubert , Hugo Wolf and Johannes Brahms , among others . In this context he has extensive concert activities.

In 2000 he was awarded the title Berliner Kammersänger by the Berlin Senate .
