Orquestra Gulbenkian

The Orquestra Gulbenkian is an orchestra based in Lisbon , Portugal .

history

The orchestra was founded in 1962 by the Lisbon-based Gulbenkian Foundation . His chief conductors and music directors included Gianfranco Rivoli , Werner Andreas Albert , Claudio Scimone and Tang Muhai .

Recordings were often made by Michel Corboz , who has been chief conductor of the affiliated choir since 1969.

Lawrence Foster was Music Director and Chief Conductor of the orchestra from 2002 to 2013, and Paul McCreesh from 2013 to 2016 . Lorenzo Viotti has been chief conductor since the 2018/19 season, and he was acting chief conductor of the orchestra in the 2017/18 season.
