Michel Corboz (born February 14, 1934 in Marsens , Canton of Friborg; † September 2, 2021 ) was a Swiss conductor and composer .

Life

Michel Corboz first attended the teachers' seminar with Pierre Kaelin in Friborg (Switzerland) and then studied singing with Juliette Bise and music theory with Aloÿs Fornerod at the KF Conservatory and composition with Pierre Chatton at the Ribaupierre Institute in Lausanne . In 1961 he founded the Ensemble vocal et instrumental de Lausanne , of which he was also director and with which he has given numerous concerts at home and abroad and made recordings. As a conductor of this formation he succeeded with recordings of the Marienvespers and the Orfeo von Claudio Monteverdi made his international breakthrough in 1965 and 1966. From 1969 he was also chief conductor of the choir of the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon.

From 1976 to 2004 he taught choral conducting at the Geneva Conservatory .

His repertoire ranged from Bach , Mozart , Schubert , Mendelssohn , Brahms to Verdi , Puccini , Fauré , Duruflé , Frank Martin and Arthur Honegger . With his ensembles in Lausanne and Lisbon, which he directed until 2019, Corboz made over 100 recordings, mainly on the Erato label. In June 2020 he gave a farewell concert in Geneva. He died in early September 2021.
