Order of the Infante Dom Henrique
The Order of Infante Dom Henrique was founded on June 2, 1960 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator by the Portuguese President Américo Tomás as a civil merit order and is awarded to nationals and foreigners as well as institutions.
Order classes
The order consists of five classes:

As a special version, the Grand Cross with Collane can only be awarded to heads of state . Until 2011 there were also gold and silver medals as an entry level.
Order decoration
The medal is a silver- gold-plated , red enameled Templar cross . The back is smooth and without enamel .
Carrying method
The grand cross is worn on a sash from the right shoulder to the left hip and is worn with a nine-pointed, gold-plated breast star . Grand officers and commanders wear the decoration as a neck medal , grand officers also wear a silver-plated breast star. Officer and knight decorate the medal on the ribbon on the left side of the chest. A rosette is also attached to the officers' band .
The band is striped in blue, white and black.
