Catherine Cessac (born August 19, 1952 in Bordeaux ) is a French music historian and music editor.

Live and act

Catherine Cessac began her studies at the Conservatory and the University of Bordeaux. She then studied musicology at the Sorbonne University in Paris. From 1990 to 2003 she was editor of the “Bulletins de la Société Marc-Antoine Charpentier”. In 2004, the French Ministry of Culture entrusted her with the organization of the national celebrations for the 300th anniversary of the death of the composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier , including the creation of a website about the life and work of Charpentier and the constant updating of research findings. Cessac is head of research at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and the study studio at the Center de musique baroque de Versailles (CMBV). Her main focus is French music of the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1988 she received M.-A. Charpentier the Charles Cros Academy Award . As the editor of critical editions, she focuses on works by Charpentier, Sébastien de Brossard , Jean-Féry Rebel , Louis-Nicolas Clérambault , Jean-Baptiste Lully and Henry Desmarets .
