Polish crown jewels
The Polish Crown Jewels were the insignia of the Kingdom of Poland .
From the time of the Piast dynasty in the Middle Ages, only the Szczerbiec coronation sword has survived. It is kept in the Wawel Castle in Krakow along with the other crown jewels that were made later .
During the reign of the Jagiellonian and Vasa kings in Poland, other insignia were made, including the "Hungarian Crown" and the "Swedish" Crown from the 16th century, which were lost or destroyed. The plock diadem was preserved . Under the rulers of the Saxon Wettins from Dresden, the crown of August II and the crown of August III were created.
After the 3rd division of Poland , parts of the Polish Crown Jewels that existed at that time came to Prussia , where they were placed in 1809 under the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. melted down and destroyed.
