The crown of August III. is a Polish - Saxon crown .

The crown was given in 1733 for the coronation of the Saxon Elector Friedrich August II. As the Polish King August III. Made of silver by the Dresden court jeweler Johann Heinrich Köhler . Furthermore, the coronation ceremony of 1733 included the crown of August's wife Maria Josepha , two sceptres and two imperial apples. Since the previous Polish crown jewels including the Polish crown were hidden in 1733, August III. Have this crown and the other crown jewels made of silver made for the coronation ceremony.

In the course of further Polish history, the crown remained in Warsaw - in contrast to the older Polish crown jewels of the Piasts  - and was captured by German forces in Warsaw in 1939/1940. At the end of World War II, Soviet troops found the Krone in Germany and sent it to Moscow, where it remained until 1960. In 1960 the Soviet government returned the crown to the then friendly Eastern bloc state of Poland. Currently the crown of August III. Together with the queen's crown of Maria Josepha and the other crown jewels from the coronation ceremony of 1733 in the National Museum in Warsaw .
