Nikolai Schukoff

Nikolai Andrej Schukoff (* 1969 in Graz ) is an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Schukoff completed his vocal studies at the Mozarteum Salzburg with an excellent diploma in "Musical Dramatic Representation", for which he was awarded the Lilli Lehmann Medal in 1996. In the same year he made his debut as Alfredo in Giuseppe Verdi's La traviata at the Gelsenkirchener Musiktheater im Revier . He then worked for a few years at the Mannheim National Theater and the Nuremberg Opera .

From 2006 he mainly appeared in hero tenor games and with that he achieved his international breakthrough. But he is not only successful in Wagner roles, but still appears in Italian ( Bellini , Verdi) and French (Don José), but also in roles of Gluck and operetta roles (Tassilo or Danilo).

Schukoff is a freelance artist and has had engagements at the Opéra National de Paris , the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.

In addition to his opera appearances, he also works as a concert singer, for example in the role of Waldemar in Arnold Schönberg's Gurre-Lieder in the Wiener Musikverein under Zubin Mehta .
