Jennifer Condon

Jennifer Condon (* 1983 in Wollongong ) is an Australian conductor and prompter .

Life

Condon received her elementary music lessons first in Wollongong and the Kambala School in Sydney with support from Opera Australia , where she made her first contact with the conductor Simone Young . She then studied piano at the Sydney Conservatory and conducting with Vladimir Vais in Melbourne .

She worked as a répétiteur for Melbourne City Opera and conducted Hoffmann's short stories at the Sydney University Arts Festival . In 2005, she moved to Europe, where she deepened her conducting studies, initially in Vienna, took part in master classes , and at the same time began working as a prompter at the State Opera in Hamburg .

As a conductor, she is particularly specialized in German and contemporary repertoire, with the performance of Aribert Reimann 's Lear being one of her most important works.

As an assistant conductor, she worked under conductors such as Simon Rattle , Simone Young , Jaap van Zweden , Franz Welser-Möst , Andrew Davis and Kirill Petrenko .

In 2015 she was selected as one of 6 conductors for the scholarship program of The Linda and Mitch Hart Institute for Women Conductors of the Dallas Opera , and has since been engaged as a conductor or assistant conductor several times.

She works freelance, mainly as an assistant conductor, including engagements at the Bavarian State Opera , Salzburg Festival , Baden-Baden Festival , Vienna State Opera , Semperoper Dresden, Berlin State Opera , Bayreuth Festival , Hamburg State Opera , Deutsche Oper Berlin , De Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Lyric Opera of Chicago , Zurich Opera , Hungarian State Opera , Dallas Opera and New National Theater Tokyo . She also conducted performances of The Flying Dutchman at the Malmö Music Theater and at the Cultural de Mayo Festival in Guadalajara , Mexico.

In 2009, Condon received approval from the estate administrator of Australian composer Peggy Glanville-Hicks to record her unpublished and never fully performed or recorded opera Sappho from 1964. After a time-consuming transfer of the manuscript and a long search for contributors, Condon was able to record the opera under her own direction in 2012 with, among others, Deborah Polaski , Martin Homrich , Scott MacAllister , Roman Trekel , Wolfgang Koch and John Tomlinson .
