Deborah Polaski
Deborah Polaski (born May 26, 1949 in Richland Center , Wisconsin ) is an American opera and concert singer ( soprano ). She is one of the contemporary dramatic sopranos .
Life
After her training in the USA, Deborah Polaski went to Europe. She made her operatic debut as Senta in Wagner's Der Fliegende Holländer at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen. She then sang at opera stages in Ulm, Karlsruhe, Darmstadt, Hanover and Freiburg. Her repertoire mainly includes dramatic soprano roles such as Wagner's Isolde , Brünnhilde , Kundry ( Parsifal ) and Ortrud ( Lohengrin ), as well as Strauss ' Ariadne and Elektra , Berlioz' Didon and Cassandre ( Les Troyens ), Bergs Marie ( Wozzeck ) and Janáčeks Kostelnička ( Buryjovka Jenůfa ).
She gained international attention in 1988 at the Bayreuth Festival with the role of Brünnhilde in Der Ring des Nibelungen under Daniel Barenboim . In 1991 she sang again Brünnhilde in Bayreuth, followed in 1993 by Kundry in Parsifal under James Levine alongside Plácido Domingo . She sang the role of Brünnhilde repeatedly in the new production in 1994 under James Levine - for five more years. In 2014/2015 she was the nurse in the premiere of Frau ohne Schatten at the Bavarian State Opera .
Deborah Polaski was a guest in Amsterdam, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Berlin State Opera and with the Philharmonic Orchestra there, in Bonn, Chicago, Duisburg, Dresden, Florence, Frankfurt, Geneva, Genoa, Hamburg, Copenhagen and Cologne, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, in Lucerne, Milan, Mannheim, Montreux and Munich, at the New York Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall, in Oslo, Paris, Rome, Salzburg, Stuttgart and near Sydney Festival, in Vienna, Tokyo, Yokohama and Zurich. In 1996 she made her debut at the Vienna State Opera as Brünnhilde. Later Ariadne, Elektra, Marie, Ortrud and Kundry followed at this house. In 2003 she was appointed Austrian Chamber Singer . In March 2015 she became an honorary member of the German State Opera Berlin. Polaski also appears as a song and concert singer.
The title role in Elektra forms a focal point in the artist's work and she designed the demanding role and a. with Daniel Barenboim and Semjon Bytschkow , with whom she also recorded the part.
