Michael Geoffrey "Mick" Jones (born June 26, 1955 in London , England ) is a British musician . He became known as a composer, guitarist and occasional singer for the band The Clash .

Jones was considered the thought leader of the unsuccessful early punk band London SS .

After his time at The Clash, he briefly joined General Public; then he founded the bands Big Audio Dynamite and Big Audio Dynamite II. He is still active with his new band Carbon / Silicon . The band released their first album The Last Post in 2007. Before that, she only offered her music for free download. The first track by Carbon / Silicon was called MPFREE and dealt with the issue of copyrights , music and the internet. Carbon / Silicon enables its fans to record concerts on video or audio devices.

Mick Jones fell ill with pneumonia in 1989 , which he barely survived.

In recent years Jones has also worked as a music producer; He was particularly important here for The Libertines, which were influenced by The Clash and The Kinks . Mick Jones recently produced the UK street punk band Foreign Legion and is currently the producer of Babyshambles .

Jones used to play a Gibson Les Paul Junior in Clash times, later a Gibson Les Paul .

In 2015 Rolling Stone listed Jones, together with Joe Strummer, on rank 57 of the 100 best songwriters of all time .
