Nässjö [ ˈnɛʃøː ] is a town in the southern Swedish province of Jönköpings län and the historic province of Småland . The city is the capital of the municipality of the same name .

history

Nässjö received city rights in 1914. However, the place gained in importance from 1864 when it was decided to run the southern main railway line from Malmö to Falköping through the place. Gradually, Nässjö was expanded into a hub for rail transport. The city's first train station was the first public building designed by the Swedish architect Adolf W. Edelsvärd , who was also involved in urban planning and the expansion of the area around the station.

Infrastructure and tourism

Nässjö is the only city in Sweden where six different railway lines still converge. The importance of the place as a hub of rail transport is also evident in a local attraction, the Nässjö Railway Museum (Nässjö Järnvägsmuseum) , which deals with the regional and national history of rail transport .

Southwest of Nässjö there is a 324 meter high transmission mast for broadcasting VHF radio and television programs.

economy

The Nässjö Brewery (Nässjö bryggeri) existed from 1965 to 1981, brewing and selling a beer brand known in Småland. The brewery building was then empty and burned down in 1988.
