history
Falköping is located in an area steeped in history, Falbygden with the greatest density of megalithic systems in Scandinavia. There is evidence of a settlement in the 12th century; Falköping received city rights at the end of the 14th century at the earliest. The city was almost abandoned in the 16th century and the city was burned down in the Three Crowns War (1563-1570). It recovered only slowly and in 1800 had no more than 450 inhabitants.
traffic
The construction of the railway in the middle of the 19th century promoted the development of the city, as Falköping was the connection between the Västra stambana Stockholm – Gothenburg and the main line Stockholm – Helsingborg . The Nässjö – Falköping railway is in operation, while the Landeryd – Falköping railway has been closed.
