Rodgau Monotones is a German rock band founded in 1977 , named after the Hessian town of Rodgau . In the refrains of their songs performed in High German , they like to use the New Hessian Regiolekt .

The lyrics are mostly about happiness and the pitfalls of everyday life. Her greatest hits are “Ei Gude wie!”, “St. Tropez am Baggersee ”,“ Hesse is coming! ”,“ Hello, I'm Hermann ”and“ Volle Lotte ”. The first published LP was called “Do you want music, or what ?!” and was published in 1982 by Rockport-Verlag (Bernd Gruber).

Band history

In November 1977 five musicians from the Rodgau area met for the first time in the rehearsal room and founded the Rodgau Monotones. They wanted to make music together that wasn't German or jazz rock, but rather party rock. In the first few years, it was limited to performing pieces by ZZ Top , Johnny Winter and Queen with German lyrics. In 1978 Henni Nachtsheim joined the band with his saxophone, which later became known as a member of the comedy duo Badesalz .

The band's first appearance took place on Mardi Gras 1978 in the Roxy in Offenbach am Main - as a break filler from "Hartz Reinhard Revival", in which Mob and Osti also played. This was followed by a series of gigs in smaller places where up to 2000 people came to the concerts when the band was still unknown in Frankfurt. In 1980 the first appearance in the Batschkapp in Frankfurt-Eschersheim followed , which was over after only an hour due to a lack of repertoire.

In 1982 they recorded their first album Do you want music or what? and went on tour regionally. With the single Ei Gude from their second album Fluchtpunkt Dudenhofen they made their first radio appearances. The chart successes of the album Volle Lotte (place 16) and the single Die Hesse komm! (22nd place) helped the Rodgau Monotones achieve their final breakthrough. In 1985 they followed up with the long player Wir seh'n uns vorgericht (23rd place) and the single Hallo, ich bin Hermann (75th place). In the same year they played the German contribution Nackt im Wind to the “Live Aid Concert” in the band for Africa together with other rock greats on Cologne's Domplatte .

Participation in the festival in the stadium at Bieberer Berg in Offenbach am Main in 1984 with Santana , Bob Dylan and Joan Baez was followed in the same year by "Pampa-Power" in the stadium of FSV Frankfurt am Bornheimer Hang with Flatsch! , The Crackers , Feinbein , Hob Goblin , Roger Chapman , the Anti-WAAhnsinns Festival and on October 19, 1985, following an appearance at Kuli in Eine will win an additional one at ARD - Rockpalast . As part of the Deep Purple Open Air 85 on June 29, 1985 on the Mannheim Maimarkt site and on July 6, 1985 on the Nuremberg Zeppelin Field, you were given the honor of opening both festivals (with Roger Chapman, Mountain, Meat Loaf and Deep Purple)

In 1985, the cartoonist Chlodwig Poth and his daughter Leonore Poth produced a 30-minute music film with cartoon elements called "Rodgau Melodies - The Rodgau Monotones and Their Songs" for Hessischer Rundfunk. The rudimentary plot of the film - now available on DVD - took place at a Rodgau kiosk.

On July 27, 1986, they performed together with Herbert Grönemeyer and the band Die Toten Hosen at the demonstration against the planned nuclear reprocessing plant in Wackersdorf .

In 1987 the saxophonist Achim Farr joined the band on the “Sportsmen” tour. In 1990 Henni Nachtsheim left the band and concentrated together with Gerd Knebel von Flatsch! to the comedy duo Badesalz, founded in the early eighties. The Rodgau Monotones paused for a year and a half, then they found the right replacement for singing in Rodgau's Kerstin Pfau.

In the middle of 2001 there was another break when Achim Farr left the band at his own request. With this departure, the wind section with Joachim Kunze (trumpet) and Thomas Wimbauer (trombone) was also dissolved. Matthias “Mattl” Dörsam came as the new saxophonist.

In March 2003 the Rodgau Monotones celebrated their 25th stage anniversary ("silver wedding") in two sold out concerts in the Offenbach town hall together with their old companions Flatsch !, Hob Goblin , Die Crackers and 8000 fans.

Hessian "national anthem"

Her self-deprecating song “Die Hesse komm!” Has been considered by many as the Hessian national anthem since it was published in the 1980s and is far more popular than the official Hessen song . In 2005 it was referred to as the “Official Hesse Hymn” in a press release by the Green Group in the Hessian state parliament.
