The Crackers were a German rock band. The band was founded in 1979 and their first appearance was in the Wartburg in Wiesbaden . In 1984 they counted alongside Rodgau Monotones , Flatsch ! and Hob Goblin was one of the protagonists of the so-called "Hessen Power". A national success initially she celebrated with the titles Phonhaus and porn cinema (both 1982). She had her greatest success with a class trip to Titisee (1983), in which she coined the term “generation of sneakers”, which quickly found its way into the German language .

In 1987 the band split up, only to find themselves in a different composition in 1989. Since 1998, however, they have played in the original line-up again. In 2003 they performed at the anniversary concert “Silberhochzeit” of the Rodgau Monotones in the Offenbach city hall , where they played in front of 8,000 spectators.

For the Hessen-SPD they wrote and played the piece “The time is ripe” for the 2007/08 election campaign. For the 30th anniversary, the band recorded the double CD “Die Crackers Live” at concerts on December 5 and 6, 2008, which was released in May 2009. The setlist for the evenings came about in consultation with the audience. In July 2009 the band released the single Wir haben eine Traum , the official fan song of SV Wehen Wiesbaden . On September 29, 2012 the band gave their last concert in Wiesbaden for the time being. In December 2018, the band announced that they would be returning for three concerts for the 40th anniversary in 2019.
