Band for Africa

The Band für Afrika was a joint project of various German artists with the aim of collecting donations for Africa. The model for this was the British project Band Aid , which Bob Geldof and Midge Ure organized in England in 1984.

The project was initiated in 1985. The text of the song Nackt im Wind comes from Wolfgang Niedecken ( BAP ), the music from Herbert Grönemeyer . In January 1985, a video clip for the Formula One television program was recorded in the FSM studios . All participating artists and record companies waived their fees. The song reached number three on the charts.

Band für Afrika performed live on July 13, 1985 at the Live Aid concert in Cologne, the title Nackt im Wind was broadcast worldwide. In addition, Deserters was sung together by Wolf Maahn , which was broadcast on ARD in 1987 on the occasion of the last Rockpalast night at the time.

The composer, lyricist, musician, producer, record company and publisher forego any earnings and donate at least DM 2.00 per single (plus subsequent painting licenses) to the above accounts. The record trade is asked to follow this example. "

Almost 150,000 copies of the single were sold - the artist donated around 300,000 D-Marks.
