Richard Wester (* 1956 in Linz am Rhein ) is a German saxophonist and composer .

Life

From 1974 to 1982 Richard Wester studied music in Berlin . He has lived in Schleswig-Holstein since 1982 .

Wester worked as a band musician a. a. with Ulla Meinecke , Stefan Waggershausen , BAP and Hallucination Company , as a theater musician at the following theaters : Theater Tribüne , Grips Theater Berlin , Schauspielhaus Hamburg , Schaubühne am Halleschen Tor . He made studio and session music a. a. with Udo Lindenberg , Hannes Wader , Reinhard Mey , Herwig Mitteregger , Joe Cocker , Lydie Auvray and Tangerine Dream .

Independent artistic activity

From 1987 to 1988 Richard Wester took part in the Three Men in Snow program alongside Manfred Maurenbrecher and Thommie Bayer .

In 1988 he formed the instrumental combo Richard Wester and band . In the same year he founded the duo Maurenbrecher & Wester with Manfred Maurenbrecher, which started in 2004 with the Hey Du-Nö! occurred.

Since 1990 Wester has been represented with guest moderators on NDR , WDR and DLF . In 1995 he began nationwide multimedia installations, e.g. B. Rheinfels-Saga , The Castle of a Thousand Years etc. In 1997 he founded the annual Night of Songs , in which he previously organized concerts together with Nanette Scriba , Hannes Wader , Anne Haigis , Manfred Maurenbrecher , Pablo Ardouin , Ulla Meinecke , Stefan Stoppok , Knut Kiesewetter , Ina Deter , Ulrich Roski , Christina Lux , Klaus Lage , Etta Scollo , Pe Werner , Hans-Eckardt Wenzel , Nessie Tausendschön and George Nussbaumer . In 2001 he gave concerts with Chris Jarrett and Jens Fischer in the band No standard . Since 2001 he has organized Kultur im Glashaus , Wester's own experimental stage in fishing , (Schleswig-Holstein), in which u. a. the Young Night of Songs is carried out as a radio concert for WDR 5 and NDR. The cross-over concerts with Matthias Janz (church organ saxophone) and / or a small orchestra have also been taking place since 2001 . In June 2004 Wester organized the tour "Jasmin & Saxophon", a German-Turkish modern folk project with a seven-member band from Mercin (Southwest Anatolia). In the months of October and November 2004 he worked on Im Bunker - Room of the quiet voices . The installation with Gerrit Bekker and Karl Siebig from the fields of literature , visual arts , film and music could be seen in the bunker Trollseeweg in Flensburg . Since 2004 Wester can be seen in Mental Journey , a trio program with Ulf Meyer (guitar) and David Alleckna (bass). From January 2007 to June 2010, Wester presented his monthly program “Salonbaren!” (Personality Talk) on Radio Flensburg .

  • Since 2005 The Randy Newman Project , a trio program together with Manfred Maurenbrecher and George Nussbaumer.
  • Since 2006 Concerto , a trio program together with Rolf Hammermüller, piano and Fabian Ahrens, cello.
  • In 2007 Wester Medea composed for the Schleswig-Holstein State Theater. The ballet music is a commissioned composition for a twelve-person ensemble; the premiere took place in September 2008.
  • Since 2008 he has been playing crossover concerts in the Grenzgänger project with church music director Michael Mages (church organ), Fabian Ahrens (cello) and Fjol van Forbach (guitar).
  • Since 2009 Wester has been playing in the Dedicated Love-Songs program together with Ingo York (guitar), Rolf Hammermüller (piano), Stefan Warmuth (bass) and Chris Evans (drums).
  • In 2009 he was jointly responsible for the Borderland project , an international and interdisciplinary workshop project in Stettin / Szczecin (Poland) with young people from Denmark, Poland and Germany.
