George Nussbaumer

George Nussbaumer (born May 23, 1963 in Dornbirn ) is an Austrian soul and gospel singer, pianist and composer . He lives in Alberschwende and has been blind since he was born . Because of his voice he is called the “blackest voice in Austria”.

George Nussbaumer usually accompanies himself on the piano or sings with Bernie Weber and Markus Kreil. He is also involved in the Randy Newman project.

Career

Nussbaumer wanted to become a musician as a child. At 16 he played for the first time in a band called "The Asphalt Blues Company" in Bern . At the age of 18 he moved to Vienna, where he trained as a therapeutic masseur . At that time he got his first piano from a friend and wanted to be able to make a living from music.

In the 1980s Nussbaumer took part in a competition that offered the prospect of producing his own single as the first prize. Although he won the competition, the organizer suddenly didn't want anything more to do with the single production. It came about after a detour and was published in 1984 with the title Love Me Pretty Woman .

Since 1988 Nussbaumer has been using the job title "musician".

In 1992 he brought out his first album called Voices Live with the help of sponsors in his own production . After the great success of the first album, he released a second album in 1993 with the name You Know What I Mean? .

In 1996 he achieved international fame by participating in the Eurovision Song Contest , where he took 10th place with the song Weil's dr guat got . He was the first blind person to be successful in the Eurovision Song Contest, also with a dialect song.

In 1996 and 1999 Nussbaumer released two more albums called Crazy But I Do and The Love Within . During this time he not only appeared in small solo concerts, but also in the opening act for Joe Cocker , BB King , Willy DeVille and Dr. John up.

Since 1999, he has hosted his own radio program , focused on »Soul & Blues«, on the private radio station Antenne Vorarlberg . After the broadcast is set, it becomes the station voice of the broadcaster.
