Stella Jones (* 1971 in Berlin as Stel Lisa Zacher  ) is a soul - and jazz - singer , pianist , arranger and composer .

life and career

Born in what was then West Berlin as the daughter of the blues singer and Fluxus artist Christine Jones and the bebop trumpeter Carmell Jones , she grew up in an environment that included numerous international artists. At the age of five she began to play the piano herself.

In 1977 she came to Vienna , where she began her musical career at the side of her mother, performing in jazz clubs and is still alive today. After first experiences in stage productions like the Rocky Horror Show , roles in musicals like Mozartmania , Rent , Ain't Misbehavin ' and Little Shop of Horrors followed . With the band Powerpack and the title Birthday Song , Jones had her first number one song in the Austrian charts in 1992 .

In 1995 she represented Austria with The World Turns Wrong (Composition: Mischa Krausz ) at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, where she came 13th. In the same year she released her first album under her own name (Thunder) . This was followed by engagements with Taylor Dayne , Gloria Gaynor , Omara Portuondo , Chaka Khan and Nina Hagen as well as with Austrian formations ( Count Basic , Monti Beton , Alkbottle , Bingoboys , Hot Pants Road Club , Vienna Symphonic Orchestra Project and others) and musicians ( Hans Salomon , Wolfgang Ambros , Rainhard Fendrich , Boris Bukowski and others).

In 2008 her album The Pursuit of Silence was released with 15 original compositions, for which she is also responsible as a producer. Willi Langer on bass and Thomas Lang on drums were involved in the recording of the title . Alongside Michael Dörfler, Dietmar Lienbacher, Diana Lueger and Alexander Kahr, Stella Jones was on the Austrian jury for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest .
