Thomas Lang (born August 5, 1967 in Stockerau ) is an Austrian drummer .

Life

Thomas Lang started playing drums at the age of five . After some private lessons, he studied drums at the Vienna Conservatory , among others with Walter Grassmann , who introduced him to the big band style.

From 1995 to 2005 he recorded and produced more than 250 albums and three DVDs (Ultimate Drums, Creative Control and Creative Coordination & Advanced Foot Technique).

He played with Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung , Falco , Peter Gabriel , Paul Gilbert , Nik Kershaw , Asia , Gianna Nannini , Papermoon , Sugababes , Robbie Williams and Bonnie Tyler , among others . In the jazz field he worked with the Vienna Art Orchestra (“A Centenary Journey”, 2000) and “Obsession”, as well as with the groups of Wolfgang Schalk and Stella Jones .

In 1996 his first solo CD Mediator appeared , on which he a. a. has worked with Falco , Mike Majzen and Conrad Schrenk. In 2006 his second solo CD Something along those lines was released , which he recorded over a period of 4 years in London.

His music appears on his own label MUSO Entertainment , which was founded in 2004.

As one of seven drummers, he was invited to audition by the band Dream Theater in October 2010 to find a successor for Mike Portnoy , who left the band in September 2010. The film about the rehearsals and auditions is included on the bonus DVD of A Dramatic Turn of Events , released in 2011 .

Thomas Lang has had an endorsement at the Californian drum manufacturer DW Drums since 2009 . Before that he played for Sonor , a company based in Bad Berleburg . In addition, he has had an endorsement at Meinl Cymbals for many years, with whom he also developed his own cymbal series. He also plays his own signature stick model from Vic Firth.

Other endorsers are Remo, Roland V-Drums, Ahead Armor Cases, Puresound Snare Wires, and Audix microphones.

In addition to drums, Lang also plays the piano , bass and guitar . He currently lives in Los Angeles , USA.
