Pænda (2019)

Pænda , actually Gabriela Horn (* January 1988 in Deutschlandsberg , Styria ) is an Austrian singer-songwriter . She represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv .

Life

Pænda grew up in Deutschlandsberg, where she was born and began singing in a choir when she was six. At the age of 14 she wrote her first songs. She learned to play the guitar and piano and moved to Vienna at the age of 20 , where she studied jazz and pop at the Vienna Music Institute and graduated with honors in 2013. In 2015 she took part in the German talent show Popstars .

She represents the music style of electro-pop .

In 2016 she officially started making music as Pænda. Their first single, Waves , which was released in late 2016, attracted some attention and was played on FM4 , among others . A year later, in January 2018, the second single Good Girl was released , shortly afterwards, on February 2, 2018, their debut album Evolution I was released on Living Room Records . The musician took two years to write her first album. Most of the twelve songs were created at night in my own home studio . The album, with influences from pop , electronic and hip-hop , was consistently well received by the media. Her third single Paper-thin was released in early May 2018 .

She currently lives in Vienna, where she composes, writes and sets music in her home studio. She plays all the instruments herself on her recordings, and is accompanied by her sister and a friend on live performances. In addition to her music career, she works as a singing teacher for pop at the Leobersdorf Music School .

At the beginning of 2019, Pænda was selected by an expert jury under the direction of Eberhard Forcher to represent Austria at the 64th Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv . The ORF's program director , Kathrin Zechner , stated that with Pænda she wanted to set an “expressive symbol for the modern, powerful music country Austria”. She performed her song Limits , but was eliminated in the second semifinals.
