Limits is an English-language pop song that was written and performed by Pænda . She represented Austria at the 64th Eurovision Song Contest .

background

On January 29, 2019, Pænda was presented in the show Ö3-Wecker as the representative of Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. At the beginning of March 2019, her competition entry "Limits" was presented to the public for the first time. According to her own statements, she did not write the song specifically for the Eurovision Song Contest, but only for her second album.

Musical

The title is referred to as an “atmospherically charged electronic pop ballad”. Delegation leader Stefan Zechner explained that the song did not follow the "usual song contest rules". The interpreter sings exclusively in falsetto . She describes that “Limits” is about limits and about seeing yourself and learning to love. The song also deals with the consequences of ignoring these boundaries instead of noticing and respecting them.

At the Eurovision Song Contest

Pænda appeared ninth in the second semifinals. The stage set was kept dark and the interpreter stood in the midst of glow sticks. Her sister accompanied her in the background. She reached the 17th place with 21 points and could not qualify for the final. This meant the end of a five-year qualification.

reception

The fan blog Wiwibloggs described Limits as boring and monotonous. It was criticized that the song did not have a moment that could be remembered. It was rated 5.52 out of 10 points. At ESCXtra, the singer's voice and the atmosphere of the song were praised. However, it was also criticized that it did not leave a lasting impression. The evaluation was given with 5.39 points.
Karl Fluch from Standard was of the opinion that all the songs on their album "Evolution II" sounded more promising.
