life and work

In 1971 Stefan Waggershausen moved to Berlin to study psychology. During his studies he worked as an assistant director for TV productions for the SFB , among others , wrote his first TV music and composed his first songs for various productions by CBS , Teldec and Metronome Records . For several years in the 1970s, Waggershausen was also part of a group of musicians who lived in the same house in Berlin-Halensee . These included artists such as Ewald Lütge ( pensioner band ) and Gunter Gabriel , with whom Waggershausen worked on songs during this time. In addition, her own compositions and productions with various other musicians, which have not been published before, were created. During this time, Stefan Waggershausen often visited the Jazz -Café York palace in Berlin-Kreuzberg where he played his first own concerts. At the same time he began his work as a lyricist and producer for other artists, and he also wrote German cover versions of English-language hits, for example together with the film composer Martin Böttcher for the work Maybe by Thom Pace or the German version for the work Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes .

Waggershausen signed his first recording contract as a solo artist in 1974 with CBS Records (Columbia Records), and as a result Waggershausen produced his debut album Traumtanzzeit in Hamburg (Windrose Studios), Munich (Union Studios), Berlin (Audio Recording Studios) and London (Orange Studios) ). Even with this first production by Stefan Waggershausen, some musicians were represented with Udo Arndt , Gottfried Böttger , Sigi Schwab , Paul Vincent , Keith Forsey , Mal Luker and Christoph Busse , who later played a key role in various other albums. The title Traumtanz is a German cover version of his title Desolation Row approved by Bob Dylan .

From 1976 Waggershausen worked for several years as a radio presenter at the Sender Freies Berlin and RIAS , where he presented the programs SF-Beat, Nachtcafé and Softrock-Café.

In 1980 Waggershausen published the album Hallo Engel about Ariola , which was awarded a gold record after 37 weeks in the charts and more than 250,000 copies sold. In addition to the single Hallo Engel of the same name, the album also contains the title Verzeih'n Sie, Madame, with which Waggershausen took part in the preliminary decision for the Grand Prix Eurovision and took fourth place.

In 1981 he received the German Record Award of the German Phono Academy as "Artist of the Year". Hallo Engel was awarded the Golden Europe. In October 1981, Fang mich auf was released , an album about losers and independents, melancholy and ironic. In winter, the first major live appearance followed on "ROCKPOP IN CONCERT - Night of Songs" ( ZDF ), alongside Wolfgang Ambros , Lucio Dalla , Chris de Burgh , Randy Newman and Sally Oldfield .

From 1982–83, Stefan Waggershausen toured Germany for the first time with his own band. The single Too Close to Fire , sung with the Italian pop singer Alice , was released in January 1984. After the fifth Waggershausen production appeared, another tour took place. In autumn, the live CD Mitten ins Herz followed as a résumé of the tour . The two albums Touché d´amour and In the Heart of the Storm established Waggershausen in the German music scene. He produced for fellow musicians and wrote film scores.

In 1987 Waggershausen worked together with artists such as David Knopfler , Gitte Haenning , Bläck Fööss , Inga Rumpf and Heinz Rudolf Kunze in the benefit project Water is Life , the proceeds of which were donated to Greenpeace .

Again there was a musical duet, now with the singer Viktor Lazlo , with whom Waggershausen produced the two tracks The first time it hurts and Jesse produced in Brussels and Paris. The album was placed in the German charts with 4 successful single releases over a period of 5 months and the single Das first Mal tat's noch weh reached number 6 in 23 chart weeks. For this, Stefan Waggershausen was awarded the Silver RTL Lion , the Golden Europe and RSH Gold honored.

In 1993 the eleventh album Wenn dich die Mondfrau küsst and the single Jenseits von Liebe was released in collaboration with the Israeli singer Ofra Haza in the Berlin audio studio.

The album Louisiana followed in 1995 . Waggershausen used the two years to spend several months in Louisiana and the album there especially in New Orleans and Lafayette with the help of local musicians such as Willy DeVille , Zachary Richard, Freddy Koella or Al Berard from the Grammy-nominated band The Basin Brothers to produce. Part of the production was also done in the Master Trak Studio in Crowley , the oldest recording studio in Louisiana, with the collaboration of studio operator JD "Jay" Miller who has already recorded music with mainstream artists such as Paul Simon and John Fogerty at this location . The album contains rock elements , some mixed with blues and Cajun music, and in 1996 brought Waggershausen an echo as Artist of the Year in Rock / Pop.

In 1997 the album The Bill always comes out. Many of the songs on it were written in Louisiana at the time. In contrast to its predecessor, this album was completed in Berlin and supplemented by a few songs that were exclusively produced in Berlin. Especially the duet with the American actress and former Miss Teenager of the World María Conchita Alonso entitled Bienvenido a Salomé surprised with its elements of South American salsa and Mexican mariachi music . The violins are by Freddy Koella and the mariachi trumpets by Till Brönner . The vocal recordings for this duet were made at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles.

In 2003 the best of album Duette & Balladen was released .
