Thom Pace (actually Thomas Michael Pace ; born January 13, 1949 in Boise , Idaho ) is an American country musician .

biography

Pace grew up in Pocatello . Before he became a professional musician, he took piano lessons at the age of 18. In the beginning he earned his living through theater and club appearances and as a bar pianist .

In 1974 he wrote the song Maybe , which was originally intended for the film When the Northwind Blows . In the same year it was used as the medley Wear the Sun in Your Heart / Maybe in the film The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams and in 1977 the theme song of the television series The Man in the Mountains . Nevertheless, the desired success initially failed to materialize; the song wasn't even released. It wasn't until the series aired in Europe in 1979 that Pace was able to place in the charts. The song Maybe rose to number 14 on the British charts in May 1979 and reached number 1 in the German charts in November 1979 when the series was also broadcast there. The song stayed at the top for nine weeks and stayed in the hit parade for 28 weeks. In total, Maybe sold over a million times. In January 1980 Pace was awarded a gold record in Ilja Richter's show Disco . In the same year he received the Golden Europe .

In the following decade Pace released a few more records in Europe, but without being able to repeat his success (see one-hit wonder ). After 15 years, Pace retired from show business and temporarily worked as a helicopter pilot in Hawaii. Today he lives in Northern Idaho.

In 2010 the German-language single Sonne, Schein auf mich , a duet by Thom Pace and Oliver Stern, was released .

In 2018, after a twelve-year break, the album Come Down Hard (Youth Rising) was released .
