Inga Rumpf (born August 2, 1946 in Hamburg ) is a German singer and composer .

Career

Rumpf was born as the daughter of a Hamburg seaman and an East Prussian seamstress in the Hamburg district of St. Georg . In the early 1960s she made her first appearances with various blues bands in the youth home in St. Pauli . In 1965 she became the singer of the folk rock group Die City Preachers , in which Udo Lindenberg played drums at times. In 1968 she took part in the first German Schlager competition as a solo performer with the title Schade um die Tänen . In 1970 the City Preachers changed their name to Frumpy , with Carsten Bohn (drums), Jean-Jacques Kravetz (keyboards), Karl-Heinz Schott (bass), and the first record All Will Be Changed was made.

In 1972, the new formation Atlantis emerged from Frumpy , where, in addition to Rumpf and Frank Diez, Schott, Kravetz and Lindenberg also appeared as founding members. This was followed by successful concert tours through various countries with changing line-ups. a. with Dieter Bornschlegel , Ringo Funk, Alex Conti , Adrian Askew and Rainer Schnelle . In 1976, Atlantis disbanded.

From 1981 to 1982 Rumpf toured with her band Reality and lectured at the Hamburg University of Music; In 1983 she was on stage for a one-time reunion of Atlantis; Tina Turner also covered her '81 song I Wrote a Letter , the B-side of her single Let's Stay Together . In 1986 and 1987 she got involved musically with the group Inga Rumpf & Friends in the initiative "Rock against Atom".

In 1990 there was a reunion of Frumpy as a trio with Rumpf / Kravetz / Bohn. In the years that followed, two studio and one live album with Frank Diez on guitar were released with Frumpy. In 1994 projects with the Hamburg pianist Joja Wendt and the NDR Bigband followed .

In the late 1990s she increasingly turned to gospel music and performed at various church events. In 2004 she founded her own label "25th Hour Music". There the CD Live im Michel was released in 2004 and Easy In My Soul in 2005 .

In 2006 there was a re-release of the three albums My Life Is a Boogie , I Know Who I Am and Reality on a double CD entitled London - New York - Berlin . In 2006 she was on the jury of the "Gospel Award" for television work by the Protestant and Catholic Churches and the Christian aid organization World Vision Germany .

In 2007 Inga Rumpf started the CD series "Official Bootleg". Concerts in Worpswede, Stuttgart and Schwerte were recorded and published in full as limited editions.

Inga Rumpf is still touring the republic with different programs and line-ups of her band.
