Rajshahi ( Bengali : রাজশাহী , Rājśāhī ; formerly Rampur Boalia ) is the seventh largest city ​​in Bangladesh . Rajshahi is eponymous capital of the Rajshahi division and the Rajshahi district . The city has 449,756 inhabitants (as of 2011).

Geography and climate

Rajshahi is located on the north bank of the Padma , in the northwest of the country, not far from the border with the Indian state of West Bengal . In Rajshahi there is a tropical savannah climate, which is largely determined by the monsoons . The hottest season starts in March and ends in mid-July. The highest rainfall occurs during the monsoon season from late May to early October.

Economy, infrastructure and education

The city has a regional airport and a train station with a connection to the railway network. There are industries for processing agricultural products in the city. In the past, the silk industry was of greater national importance, and silk is still produced today. The city is home to several higher education institutions, including the Rajshahi University , the Rajshahi College founded in 1873 , the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and many more
