Frank Diez (born November 2, 1950 in Berlin ) is a German guitarist , composer , lyricist and producer and was for many years one of the most prominent European blues guitarists . He lives in Berlin.

Life

Inspired by the American Folk Blues Festivals of the 1960s, Diez began playing the guitar at the age of 16 and played a fundamental role in the development of German rock history in the 1970s. To this day he is active as a live and studio artist nationally and internationally. As the only German musician, he played sessions and concerts with Jimi Hendrix , Chuck Berry and Little Richard . Further stations were u. a. Atlantis , Frumpy , Carthage , Randy Pie , Klaus Kinski , your children , Snowball , Emergency ,Johnny Tame , Konstantin Wecker , Eric Burdon , Giorgio Moroder , Donna Summer , Tom Principato , Miller Anderson , Paul Vincent , Maggie Bell and many other well-known artists.

As a founding member, Diez was regularly guitarist and producer of the Peter Maffay Band for 30 years until 2004 . Maffay's producer at the time, Peter Wagner, brought the two together at the time. Diez took part again on the Maffay tour in 2009 and the "Unplugged" concert in Cologne's Lanxes Arena in 2018, this time as a special guest , as well as on the anniversary tour in 2020 .

Project work with other artists and his own band is very important. The Electric Blues Duo with Colin Hodgkinson on bass has been a permanent fixture since 1986 . Well over 1300 concerts in Germany and abroad and seven records have been produced in this formation so far.

In 2000, Diez ran the Bärlin Blues Band project with Ingo Bischof ( Karthago , Kraan , Guru Guru ) on keyboards together with the German guitarist Alex Conti (Atlantis, Lake ), also because of their mutual affinity for the city of Berlin .

From 2011 to 2013 Diez was a member of The British Blues Quintet (BBQ) around Maggie Bell and Zoot Money . In 2014 he worked with Stefan Stoppok and others in 2018 with Siggi Schwarz , Pete York and Chris Thompson .

The guitarist Stephan Diez , with whom he recorded two albums as "Diez Brothers", was his younger brother.
