Snowball was a German-Anglo-American funk-rock band from 1977 to 1981. The band produced three albums with changing line-ups.

history

Snowball was founded in 1977. The band consisted of the experienced studio and live musicians Curt Cress (drums, formerly from the band Passport ), Dave King (bass guitar), Kristian Schultze (keyboards, † 2011) and the singer and guitarist Roye Albrighton from the successful English band Nectar together. In 1978 the first album Defroster was released , followed by Cold Heat in 1979 and Follow the white Line in 1980 . Snowball was a German funk-rock band with an international line-up and international reputation. The band was not a sterile studio product, but developed in direct contact with the audience.

The music of the first album Defroster is similar to that of the band Passport, but is considered "funkier" and less jazz-oriented.

The second album, Cold Heat , was produced for eighteen days from December 1978. For the first time, the band members of the ensemble, which had grown to a quintet, wrote and composed texts together, so that each individual musician identified with the music. Compared to the previous album, they achieved a more uniform effect. The new band members Frank Diez (guitar) and Eddie Taylor (saxophone and vocals) changed the overall expression, which is described as "rounder, earthier and bluesier". Günther Gebauer became the new bass player on the album after Dave King left the band during production. The new live bass player was Reginald Worthy, who was later replaced by Wally Warning .

The third and final album, Follow the White Line Part 1 & 2 , was released in 1980 and was described by critics as "more commercial and soulful" due to outstanding ballads such as "Forgive Your Mother, Brother" and the catchy saxophone playing by Eddie Taylor.
