Maggie Bell (born Margaret Bell ; born January 12, 1945 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a British singer who was best known for the rock band Stone the Crows .

life and career

Maggie Bell comes from a musical family. As a teenager, she sang in local dance bands. She also got to know the guitarist Leslie Harvey . They met again in 1967 when they were both traveling in Germany with a band that was performing in American barracks.

In 1968 Bell and Harvey founded the formation "Power", which was quite successful in Glasgow and which became Stone the Crows the following year . The band released four albums between 1970 and 1972, but split up in 1973 after Harvey was electrocuted while setting up microphones on stage the year before.

After that, Maggie Bell began working solo. She recorded two albums in New York , but they were never released. Only the third attempt with the new manager Jerry Wexler led to the first, much acclaimed solo album Queen Of The Night (1973). The second album, Suicide Sal, followed in 1975 .

After years on tour, Maggie Bell withdrew from the music stage. She wrote film music and took care of her family. In the 1990s she began performing again with the Alex Harvey Band and Chris Farlowe , among others . She was also a member of The British Blues Quintet from 2006 to 2013 (with Zoot Money, Frank Diez , Colin Hodgkinson and Colin Allen), of which the album Live in Glasgow (Recorded At The Ferry) was also released in November 2007.

From April to November 2011 Maggie Bell toured Germany and Austria with the Jon Lord Blues Project (Miller Anderson, Jon Lord , Pete York , Zoot Money , Colin Hodgkinson ). After Lords quit due to illness, who died in 2012, the formation was back on tour in Germany in 2012 as the Pete York Blues Project.

In 2013 and 2014 she went on tour with the Hamburg Blues Band .
