Chris Farlowe
Chris Farlowe (born John Henry Deighton on October 13, 1940 in Islington , London ) is an English rhythm and blues singer.
Live and act
Chris Farlowe began his musical career while studying in London with the John Henry Skiffle Group; from 1962 he headed the Thunderbirds group.
In the mid-1960s he recorded a number of singles for Immediate Records , on which he covered soul classics, but also Rolling Stones titles. His version of Out of Time became very popular, reaching number one on the UK singles chart . Mick Jagger produced this 2 minute shorter version for Farlowe in April 1966 and also sang in the choir himself. Jimmy Page and Albert Lee can also be heard on guitar on this recording . Handbags and Gladrags , written by Mike d'Abo and later successfully adapted by Rod Stewart, was also very successful .
After a US tour with his own band The Hill in 1970, he was involved in Jon Hiseman's legendary jazz rock group Colosseum , where another ex-Thunderbird, Dave Greenslade , played. The new line-up recorded the LP Daughter of Time , which included original compositions as well as a remarkable cover version of the current Jack Bruce song Theme for an Imaginary Western . The following double LP Colosseum Live shows an example of Farlowe's vocal range, which ranges from pompous pop to rough rhythm and blues to jazzy scat . In 1972, Colosseum was dissolved, followed by a short interlude with the Atomic Rooster electrophonists . He played on the albums Nice 'n' Greasy and Made in England .
In the following years it became a little quieter around Chris Farlowe. He released a live album in 1975 with the help of Albert Lee . The album was unsuccessful and after that Farlowe retired to run a Nazi-era memorabilia store , bar and wine store . It did not come back into the limelight until the 50th birthday of Alexis Korner in 1978 ( The Party Album ). Great successes of his solo career failed to materialize despite an extensive series of publications.
In 1982 he collaborated with Jimmy Page , the legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist, for the film The Man Without Mercy . He contributed two songs to the soundtrack. In 1988 he was the lead singer on Jimmy Page's first solo album, Outrider . Farlowe's interpretation of Pages heavy blues caused quite a stir. B. with titles like Prison Blues or Blues Anthem . In 1993 he performed with Maggie Bell in Covent Garden .
A notable comeback came in 1994 with the Reunion Concerts at Jon Hisemans Colosseum. The WDR recorded the reunification on film. Successful tours, new studio and live albums by the band followed.
"The Voice" Chris Farlowe has been touring solo and with the Norman Beaker Band regularly for many years and has a loyal following, especially in Germany. Since August 2007 he has also been on the road with Clem Clempson (Ex- Humble Pie , Colosseum) and the Hamburg Blues Band . He can also be heard on the 2015 Van Morrison CD Duets .
